County Wide Ground Water Advisory Committee Meetings Discussed

A potential change to the County Wide Ground Water Advisory Committee Meetings was discussed at the South Platte Natural Resources District (District) Board (Board) November Board meeting held November 10, 2020. The Advisory Committee meetings, held at least once every three years, are for certified irrigation owners and operators to receive information about potential changes to the Districtwide Ground Water Management Area Rules and Regulations. This year the District is proposing sending out letters to certified irrigation owners and operators describing any potential changes to irrigation allocations. The change to sending letters instead of having in person meetings is due to COVID-19 restrictions and protections. The letters would be sent out in early January to give certified irrigation owners and operators the opportunity to make comments before the February 9, 2021 Board Meeting. An in-person meeting regarding the planned changes from Phase II to Phase III in the Sidney Ground Water Quality Management Subarea is still being planned at this time. Details of that meeting will be released at a later time.

In other business, Chris Kaiser, SPNRD Natural Resources Coordinator, gave the annual Fall Water Level Report and Conservation Inspection Report, while the Board took action to approve the Community Forestry Program applications received by the District. Regarding other business, the Board approved the application to transfer ground water from Ron Hadeen to Pine Bluffs Gravel and Excavating for the purpose of washing aggregate.
