Ronald Eugene Hokom

From Western Nebraska’s wheat fields to the Gulf Coast of Texas, Ronald Eugene Hokom’s life spanned 76 years and 10 months.

He passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020.

Ron was born to Lowell and Bertha Hokom in Sidney, Neb., on December 20, 1943. The youngest of four children, he grew up on a wheat farm north of Lodgepole with his siblings; Marvin, Delores (Simms), and Robert.

Ron married his college sweetheart, Barbara, on August 7, 1966. Their marriage produced the 3-M Company, Michael, Michelle (Eric), and Meghan (Mark). He was blessed with six grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. Christopher, Kasey, Desmond, Laura, Owen, and Ashby filled his heart with joy. Ron loved spending time with them and attending their sporting and school events.

Working at Boogaarts Market during college, Ron found his niche. He went on to manage grocery stores in Nebraska and Kansas. Later, he transitioned into the non-food sector, where he managed sales teams. Those who worked with him had kind words to say about his management style and work ethic.

Ron enjoyed fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, and football. GO BIG RED!! He played a mean game of pinochle. Traveling with his wife, Barbara, became a focal point of his retirement years. While cruising, they visited far off places, but most enjoyed traveling the United States and seeing Presidential Libraries and National Parks. They were able to visit all 50 of the beautiful states. Hawaii was the last, but one of the best.

As a child of God, Ron was baptized in the Lodgepole United Methodist church. He remained a faithful UMC member throughout his life, serving in various capacities, including ushering and Chair of the Board of Trustees when New Hope UMC built their church.

At his request, there will be no service. Ronald’s care is entrusted to the Neptune Society. To honor the gift of a heart to his daughter, Meghan, Ron chose to continue serving by donating his corneas to Lion’s Club, and his organs have been donated to UTMB’s Medical School to further their research and quest to advance medicine. As a celebration of life, Ron’s ashes will be scattered at Lake McConaughy in western Nebraska. Lake McConaughy is an area he loved and often visited as a child. He then passed the tradition down to his children and extended family, where everyone built loving and joyful memories. He will be remembered for his ready smile, sense of humor, and caring nature. He loved the environment and creatures of the earth. In his memory, gifts may be sent to Sea Turtle, Inc. or a charity of your choice.
