What Must Happen Now

Half the country is happy. Half is furious. And the days ahead are not likely to change that because if there’s one thing all Americans hate, it’s waiting.

The media over the weekend declared Joe Biden as the winner of the election. President Trump, as I write this, disagrees and has filed a number of lawsuits. Don’t blame him. Biden would be doing the exact same thing were their positions reversed.

Some states will be doing recounts. If there’s one thing all Americans should agree on, it’s that all legally cast votes must be accurately counted.

The media does not declare who wins elections. There are processes and procedures in each state to do that. These will be formally carried out across the nation in coming days and weeks. In at least one state, Georgia, there will be a runoff election to determine who will represent it in the senate.

If all legal options are exhausted and Biden still has more votes, Trump should do the honorable thing and step aside gracefully. Mark my words. Trump’s demonstrated popularity with half the country positions him perfectly for his own nationwide radio talk show/podcast and, with his money, potential for starting his own media network.

He’ll be just fine. But Trump must NOT delegitimize the time-honored tradition of peaceful transition of power in our country. His administration should cooperate with the incoming team to ensure a smooth transition.

Biden, who we all know is a figurehead for a democrat coalition and really won’t be making any policies himself, must carefully understand what the election was – a repudiation of Trump by a majority of voters and NOT endorsement of Biden policies.

The success of the GOP in gaining house seats, retaining the senate, turning two state administrations red and gaining power at the state level across the country is a huge warning to Biden. America has told him NOT to try implement the radical agenda pushed by the left wing of his party. Trump is leaving him a setup that brought incredible foreign policy achievements, record economic and job growth before the pandemic, and amazing economic recover when lockdowns eased. Biden could be a great president if he simply lets many of the Trump policies ride. But he and his cohorts are not that smart. After all, former President Obama once said of Biden, “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to (profanity) things up.” Let’s hope he proves Obama wrong.

My biggest fear at this point is that ongoing processes will uncover fraudulent and illegal behaviors in sufficient quantity to nullify Biden’s claim for the presidency, or that a Supreme Court ruling reinstates Trump. While that may be good for the country long-term, I shudder to think of the hell such a decision would immediately unleash on the streets of America. And believe me when I tell you that violence and chaos is both planned and hoped for by the far left. We would all do well not to let up on praying for peace and healing in our nation.
