Tigers Tame Raiders 41-14

Sidney’s Red Raider Football team travelled to Mitchell to face a high-powered Tiger team, and fell by a final score of 41-to-14 in a game that was much closer than the ending score indicated.

The Tigers entered the contest with a 7-and-1 record, their only blemish being a surprise loss to Gothenburg in the beginning of October. Led by standout senior running back Ryan Aguallo, the Tigers looked to make quick work of the struggling Raider team, but found themselves in a dogfight through the third quarter.

The Red Raiders played well on both side of the ball through the first half, limiting the Tigers’ offense to just 20 points while putting up a touchdown of their own to trail 20-to-7 at the half. But Sidney received the ball first to start the second half, and went on methodical seven play 56 yard drive with freshman quarterback Isak Doty completing short passes and senior running back Brady Robb rushing for first downs. Robb eventually broke through with a 17 yard run up the middle for a touchdown, and the Raiders were within six points at 20-to-14.

Mitchell responded with a drive of their own capped by a touchdown run by Aguallo to extend their lead back to 28-to-14, but Sidney gained some first downs and moved the ball until Doty under threw a pass and was intercepted. Sidney kept up their good play through the remainder of the game, but could not stop Aguallo as he ran for five touchdowns and 283 yards rushing.

Sidney put up 265 yards of offense and played well on defense, led by Brady Robb’s tremendous defensive effort in his last game, but it was not enough against the high-scoring Tiger offense. Sidney ends their season with a 2-and-7 mark, while the Tigers go into post-season play for the first time since 2009.
