Record Moves to 19-4
Sidney’s Lady Raider Volleyball team had a very busy schedule over the past week, and earned six victories in seven matches during the stretch.
The action started on Tuesday, September 29 when the Lady Raiders hosted Scottsbluff, and the Lady Raiders and a riled up crowd were eager to avenge their loss to the Lady Bearcats early in the season. Sidney started out hot, opening a 4-to-1 lead in the first set until the Scottsbluff squad eventually came back to tie the set. But there was no doubt in any of the sets played that Sidney was the superior team that day, and the Lady Raiders methodically put away Scottsbluff in straight sets 25-to-19, 25-to-18 and 25-to-15.
The Lady Raiders then traveled up to Scottsbluff for the Twin Cities Tournament over the weekend. Sidney’s first opponent on Friday was Scottsbluff, and no surprises were thrown at Sidney by the Lady Bearcats and Sidney easily took the match in straight sets, 25-to-16 and 25-to-17. Next up was McCook, and the Lady Bison came out strong and took the first set 25-to-21. But Sidney bore down and fought back, taking the next two sets 25-to-15 and 25-to-20 to earn the 2-to-1 match victory. Sidney ended the day with a straight set victory against the Rapid City Central Lady Cobblers out of Rapid City, SD 25-to-21 and 25-to-16.
On Saturday, Sidney’s day started against Chadron and the Lady Raiders had a surprisingly close 25-to-20 first set victory. Sidney put into high gear in the second set, beating the Lady Cardinals 25-to-12 for the straight set victory. Next up was a tough Lexington team, and after taking the first set 25-to-17, Sidney dropped the second set 18-to-25. Sidney recovered and took the third set 25-to-20 for the 2-to-1 match victory.
This set the final match of the day against Ogallala, and the match started with a tough and competitive first set that went to extra points, with the Lady Raiders pulling out a 26-to-24 victory. But the Lady Indians regrouped and went on a tear, downing Sidney in the next two sets 25-to-11 and 25-to-21 to take a 2-to-1 victory over the Lady Raiders.
The week’s action moves Sidney’s record to 19-and-4, and they next travel for the Western Conference Tournament in Gering on Saturday.
