Leyton's Lady Warriors Split During Week

Leyton’s Lady Warrior Volleyball team had a home Triangular last Tuesday Sept. 22 then traveled to Kimball on Thursday for another Triangular in a busy week of action that had the Leyton squad go 2-and-2 in match play.

Starting off on Tuesday against a strong Garden County team, the Lady Warriors struggled against their hitting and solid defense, losing in straight sets 25-to-16 and 25-to-11. Freshman Kaitlyn Craig led the Leyton offense with three kills in the loss.

Next up, the Lady Warriors had better success against Bayard, first dropping a marathon first set 26-to-28 then coming back to take the next two sets 25-to-20 and 25-to-21. Junior Cortney Holt led the offense with 9 kills and two service aces.

The girls next traveled to Kimball on Thursday and started against a tough Hay Springs team. The Lady Warriors played well, but could not break through and lost in straight sets 25-to-14 and 25-to-19. Leyton finished their week’s action against host Kimball, and defeated the Lady Longhorns for the second time this season, two sets to one.

Kimball came out hot, and the Lady Longhorns were able to get their offense going while covering the court well, taking the first set 25-to-17. But Leyton regrouped and had a strong second set, breezing past Kimball by a score of 25-to-14. The third set was a battle the whole way, and was final ended by Leyton in extra points by a score of 29-to-27.

The Lady Warriors move their record top 5-and-9 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Bridgeport to take on the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday.
