Girls Varsity Takes Third
Sidney Cross Country Team traveled to the McCook Invite on Thursday and had a successful day, with the boys' squad placing second and the girls' squad placing third against the area's best teams. Sidney junior Mitch Deer led the boys with a second place individual finish with a time of 17:43.02, an improvement of 1:62 over his last year's time at McCook. Junior Daniel Bashtovoi followed in third place with a time of 17:50.49, junior Treyson Johnstone placed 13th with a time of 18:36.87, junior Julian Maytorena placed 17th with a time of 19:03.04 and junior Tre Canas rounded up the top twenty finishers with a 20th place showing with a time of 19:05.7.
For the girls, junior Lydia Peters led the Sidney team with a third place finish at 20:51.15 while freshman Talissa Tanquary placed sixth at 21:37.94. Freshman Jenju Peters placed 13th at 22:43.53 and sophomore Rheo Dykstra placed 17th 23:28.92 to round out the top twenty finishers for Sidney.
The varsity teams next compete at Ogallala on Thursday Sept. 24.
