There is something “normal,” a little bit historic, about attending a summer camp. The concept is foreign to some families, however, because of the expense of attending a camp and of driving to the nearest camp.
Since 1995, Sullivan Hills Camp near Lodgepole has offered a nearby place to get away, a place for summer camp, weekend and event activities of all ages. The camp depends on the support of donors to keep prices affordable for campers and their families. For several years, supporters of Sullivan Hills Camp have given the funds necessary to make the experience affordable for all. With the help of its supporters, the plan for 2021 is to take it a step further. Sullivan Hills Camp supporters are covering the remaining $50 for campers to attend free.
Sullivan Hills has conducted an fundraising dinner annually as its primary support. With the COVID-19 restrictions, the event was canceled. However, the sponsors of the Heart of the Hills Benefit Dinner have offered a challenge. The sponsors will match every dollar donated up to $9,000. There is also an online auction to support the camp. The auction will take place through 10 p.m. Sept. 20. To register, go to http://www.sullivanhills.org/heart-of-the-hills.
Donations can also be made by mail to Sullivan Hills Camp in care of NLOM 27416 Ranch Road Ashland, NE 68003.
