Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
In order to accomplish our goal of keeping Sidney Public School students in school, we are making some modifications to the classroom social distancing plans for grades 5-12.
The Panhandle Public Health Department is firm on this element: In order to avoid being required to quarantine in the event of positive cases of COVID-19, students must wear masks when maintaining a six foot distance from their peers is not possible.
Moving forward, in classes where student population and classroom space does not allow for six foot distance between individuals, masks will be required at all times.
As a result, it is possible that students will find themselves wearing masks more often and in more classes. Our goal is to keep students in school and in their activities. We don’t want several students forced to quarantine when there is a positive case.
Teachers are aware that this enhanced requirement will increase the need for mask breaks, and they are prepared to help their students adapt. Students have been great about complying with mask requirements, and we appreciate their efforts. We know they will continue to work hard to keep our learning environment as safe as possible.
Our plans and procedures will continue to evolve as we learn how to best protect our students and staff. We will communicate all changes to students and parents, and we thank you for helping us keep kids safe and in school.
