Peetz Fall Sports Postponed to Spring 2021

The Colorado High School Activities Association, after months of collaboration with Gov. Jared Polis and numerous COVID-19 related committees, has announced a modified sports and activities calendar for the 2020-2021 scholastic calendar.

“The health and safety of our student participants, coaches, officials and essential personnel, including volunteers is a primary concern for the return of interscholastic athletics and activities,” said CHSAA Commissioner Rhonda Blanford-Green. “We are very grateful for the state, health and educational leaders for their shared commitment of a return to these highly beneficial education programs when it is deemed safe for all school communities.”

With the restrictive nature of the state’s guidelines and Colorado Department of Education requirements, all contact sports have been moved to later in the calendar. The Fall Sports season will now be known as “Season A,” with practices starting August 10 and seasons ending by October 17, and includes boy’s golf, softball and boys’ tennis, and cross country. Football, field hockey, gymnastics, boy’s soccer, spirit, unified bowling and girls’ volleyball have been moved to “Season C,” which begins on March 1 and concludes with championships by May 1.

“Season B,” which includes basketball, ice hockey, skiing, spirit, girl’s swimming and wrestling will begin on January 4 and conclude by March 6. The reason for the gap between Season A and Season B is because data indicates a resurgence of COIVID-19 cases is anticipated in late fall, necessitating a participation moratorium during this time frame.

“Season C” begins on March 1 and concludes with championships on May 1. “Season D” will include baseball, girl’s golf, boy’s and girl’s lacrosse, girl’s soccer, girl’s tennis, boy’s swimming, track and field and boy’s volleyball. Season D starts with practices on April 26 and will conclude with championships on June 26.
