Evelyn M. (Schwartz) Flessner

Evelyn M. (Schwartz) Flessner, 94, a long-time resident of Cheyenne County, passed away on August 5, 2020 in Baldwin City, KS.

Evelyn, the daughter of Karl Louis and Anna Fredricka Marie (Borges) Schwartz, grew up in a family of nine on their homestead in Weyerts Community, now known as Sullivan Hills Camp. She was an active member of Immanuel (Weyerts) Lutheran Church near Lodgepole, NE and in her later years of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney.

In 1948 she married Lavern H. Flessner. They raised their family on their farm northeast of Sidney. Her interests included cooking, quilting, gardening and genealogy.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and twin grandchildren. She was a loving mother.

She is survived by four children, Louis (Shawn Norris) Flessner of Lawrence, KS, Marcia (Irv) Arnquist of Kensington, MN, Carol (Steve) Empson of Broken Arrow, OK, and Mark (Lynne) Flessner of Burnet, TX; seven grandchildren and eleven greatgrandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a graveside service on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in the Weyerts Cemetery 13 miles east of Gurley. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday to sign Evelyn’s register book and drop off condolences for the family. The casket will be closed. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated to NLOM/Sullivan Hills Camp, 27416 Ranch Road, Ashland, NE 68003.
