Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
Unrest, violence and hate spilling into the streets. Increasing disorder in urban areas. Talk of the need to throw out the old order and rebuild society from the ground up. This isn’t new. We’ve seen it before. And each time these things rise to overwhelming national prominence the outcome can be predicted. Tyranny and oppression.
What we’re witnessing unfold in our media streams is the same play with different actors. It’s known as the “bottom up, top down, inside out” approach to overthrow a nation and it follows a predictable pattern.
First, create an underclass of people who feel increasingly disenfranchised, persecuted and left out. Convince them they cannot succeed on their own and need help. Then get them dependent on handouts to the point they feel entitled to them. Eventually, the burdens of demand will outweigh supply and so-called “benefits” are threatened with cancellation.
Second, erode trust in pillar institutions of a society. Corrupt the justice system. Infiltrate education and begin influencing young minds with sweet-sounding B.S. Convince people they can no longer trust religious institutions. Rewrite history. Broaden the definition of family while promoting alternatives to it.
Third, instill fear in the population. Convince them even the little they have is at risk, perhaps their very lives. Manipulate perceptions by silencing reasonable voices and promoting a desired narrative. Use every means to shut dissenting views out of public discourse. Stoke fear with stories that support the promotion of fear.
Fourth and concurrent with steps one through three, seize and control all major channels of communication. See that they all support the desired narrative and use anecdotal evidence to promote the narrative.
Fifth, position key agitators within the rising street movements to encourage “direct action” and violence. Accelerate the situation by coordinating with media to air only the most extreme incidents. Never let anything surface to counter the narrative. Destroy all who disagree.
Finally, at the insistence of an increasingly fearful and law-abiding segment of the population, unleash lethal force against the rebels. Utterly eradicate them to the praise of a public more afraid of unrest than losing civil liberties. And then take the eagerly offered reins of power and remold the nation in your image. The bottom rises up. The top comes down on it like a hammer. Then, having suppressed the most rebellious in society and restored order, pass rules and regulations to shape the society in the image desired by the State.
We saw events unfold exactly as I’ve described in Europe and Russia after World War One and in China and Southeast Asia after World War II. And between 1900 and 2000 we saw more than 100 million people die as a result of collectivist ideologies trying to reshape societies. Now it’s America’s turn.
Can we stop this course of events? I’m not optimistic and am preparing accordingly. Ultimately, all we really can do is pray for God’s forgiveness and mercy, try to live good and decent lives, treat others as we want to be treated, and exercise self-discipline when the time comes.
