Norma was born to Glen and Neva (Corwin) Colwell on October 7, 1929 in Chadron, NE. Norma's parents divorced when she was 6 years of age. Norma attended Crawford school thru the 3rd grade then she remained at home until the age of 11 when she was taken to Beatrice, NE to the Regional Institution where she resided for 30 years. In 1970 she was moved to Norfolk, NE to a smaller Regional Center for 3 years. She moved again to Auburn, NE to another Regional Center for 3 years. In 1976 the movement of moving folks with intellectual developmental disabilities into community centers was prevalent so at this time Norma came to the Sidney program. Region I Office of Human Development (back then referred to as OMR). Norma was a laborer at Panhandle Products and Recycling and was a great worker! She could out work anybody else from assembling reels to cleaning floors.
Norma loved spending time socializing and would take all opportunities to do so with her friends, whether that be at the First United Methodist Church where she was a member for 33 years, traveling to visit Patty Welk and family, at the Congregate meals or out playing Bingo!
Norma is survived by her dear friends Scott, Patty and Robyn Welk, of Grand Island, NE as well as all the members of Office of Human Development. She will be remembered and missed dearly.
