Cheyenne County voters will be facing a busy ballot for the Primary Election.

Locally, county voters will be deciding on seats for the county commission, Sidney City Council, Sidney Airport Authority, Leyton District No. 3 School Board, Potter-Dix No. 9 School Board, Sidney School District No. 1, Creek Valley School District School Board, Village of Dalton Board of Trustees and Village of Lodgepole Board of Trustees.

Of the list, some candidates will not appear on the Primary ballot. Names of candidates who properly filed for nomination at the Primary Election and do not exceed two candidates per position to be filled shall be declared nominated and their names will not appear on the Primary ballot. Candidates who will not appear on the Primary ballot are Randal D. Miller, District 1 County Commissioner; Joe Arterburn (incumbent), Burke Radcliffe (incumbent) and Loren Hoekema for Sidney City Council; Jim Price (incumbent) and Shannon Odiet (incumbent) for Sidney Airport Authority; Timothy Maas (incumbent), Royce McConnell (incumbent) and Trustin E. Vrtatko for the Potter-Dix No. 9 School board; Brad A. Kennedy (incumbent), Kathy Nienhueser (incumbent) and Matthew Wallace for the Sidney School District No. 1 School Board; and Todd Rust, Matthew Kingman (incumbent), Troy Isenbart (incumbent) and Kevin Jacobs for the Creek Valley School District school board.

Local issues will have Leyton District No. 3 School Board candidates Kevin Henke (incumbent), Jed W. Benish (incumbent), Samuel S. Schumacher, Elizabeth Twarling, Ryan Jenson, Susan M. Ernest, Roland Rushman, Earl Reilly and David J. Weideman; Ronald W. Flohr, Sr. for the Village of Dalton Board of Trustees, and R.J. Savely, Jr., and Susan Mitchell for the Lodgepole Board of Trustees.

Cheyenne County is divided into nine precincts. Precincts No. 1-5, (Sidney precincts) will be held at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building. The villages of Gurley, Lodgepole, Potter and Dalton will conduct their Primary elections at their respective fire halls. Polling locations will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Historically, voters can cast their vote at the County Clerk's Office. Because of the COVID-19 social distancing and Gov. Pete Rickett's Directed Health Measures, the courthouse is closed to the public. The deadline for Early Voting applications was May 1.

The ballot will also include Ben Sasse and Matt Innis on the Republican side for U.S. Senator, Republican Jeff Fortenberry for House of Representatives District 1, Donald Bacon and Paul Anderson for District 2 House of Representatives, Republicans Adrian Smith, Larry Lee Scott Bolinger, William Elfgren, Justin Moran and Aaron Kowalski for District 3 House of Representatives. On the Democratic ticket statewide, Babs Ramsey and Kate Kolz are competing for District 1 House of Representatives; Dennis Frank Macek, Christ Janicek, Larry Marvin, Angie Phillips, Alisha Shelton, Daniel M. Wik and Andy Stock are competing for the six-year term as Nebraska's US Senator, and Joe Biden, Tulsi Gabbard, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are on the ticket for U.S. President. Since the printing of the ballot, Biden has become the remaining Democratic candidate for president. President Donald Trump is the Republican candidate for president.
