The Sidney City Council approved the purchase of a new mower for Hillside Golf Course during the council's April 28 meeting.
Golf Operations Director Patrick Kilbride presented the council with three bids for a new mower: a Toro Groundsmaster 4300-D from LL Johnson in Denver, a Jacobsen AR522 from TurfWerks in Johnston, Iowa, and a John Deere 8800A TerrainCut from Stotz Equipment in Evansville, Wyo. As presented, the low bid was submitted by TurfWerks at $50,978. Stotz Equipment is the highest at $54,600 and LL Johnson in the middle with a bid of $54,332.80 including trade-in.
Kilbride said the City could not get a bid through 21st Century. Kilbride said 21st Century would have to purchase the same mower from Stotz Equipment, then resell it to the City. He also said the advantage of LL Johnson's bid is the golf course already has Toro equipment such as air filters and general maintenance parts. The City had approved appropriation of $57,000 in this year's budget for a rough mower. Kilbride also said he favors L.L. Johnson because the company is closer to Sidney.
He said the request is a result of the maintenance needs on the current mower.
"The mower we've had issues with has about 5,000 hours, which is quite a bit," he said.
The request was approved 5-0.
Economic Development Director Melissa Norgard updated the council on the programs designated for businesses impacted by the COVID-19 virus. In an earlier meeting, the council approved an LB840 program assisting local businesses with no-interest and forgivable grants. The Economic Development Citizens Advisory Committee, tasked with reviewing applications, met Friday, April 24. Nine applications were reviewed and six were approved. Norgard said the three that were not approved were tabled and not denied. She said six more applications were accepted for review in the April 30 meeting. The total commitment for the nine requests is $65,000; $50,000 is needed for the approved requests.
Applications will be accepted through May 31.
