Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) Extended Care confirms the first case to test positive for COVID19 in Sidney. The resident was screened upon the recognition of the only symptom, that of a sore throat. That resident's roommate has tested negative. Both families have been notified of the test results, and both were transferred to the hospital's COVID unit at the hospital to quarantine.
Under the guidance of the Panhandle Public Health District, Region 21 Command, and the Nebraska Infection Control Assessment and Promotion Program, the hospital and Extended Care staff implemented appropriate safety precautions last month. "The staff has been preparing for this situation and continue to operate under rigorous infection control procedures," stated the medical director for Extended Care, Dr. Rebecca Allard M.D. "The organization is taking every precaution to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff."
With this new development, the public is asked if you are concerned that you may have COVID-like symptoms to either contact PPHD (308-262-5764), contact your provider (SRMC Physicians Clinic at 308-254-5544) or for further assessment use the Mobile Clinic located outside of the SRMC Emergency Room next to the ambulance bay Monday-Sat 8 am-5 pm. The Mobile Clinic is managed by triage nurses and providers that will evaluate patients for COVID symptoms to determine if further assessment is required.
The Panhandle Public Health Department reported four COVID-19 cases in Cheyenne County, one that has recovered and out of isolation; 18 in Scotts Bluff County with eight recovered and out of isolation; 10 cases in Kimball County with nine having recovered and out of isolation; and one each in Box Butte and Morrill Counties.
