Past Due Notices Going Out to Domestic and Foreign Corporations

LINCOLN – Notices are being sent to 18,485 domestic and foreign business entities that are past due in submitting their occupation tax reports to the Secretary of State’s office. At the start of the filing period on January 2, letters were sent to more than 51,790 domestic and foreign corporations reminding them of the March 1 deadline.

“All reports and fees must be received no later than April 15 in order not to be considered delinquent,” explained Secretary of State Evnen. “Beyond that point, domestic entities will be administratively dissolved and foreign corporations will have their certificate of authority revoked, preventing them from doing business in the state.”

Domestic and foreign business corporations file their tax reports biennially. Reports are filed annually by limited liability partnerships (LLPs).

“We sent reminders to 411 of those LLP entities. A second notice will go out in April to those LLPs that have not responded,” said Evnen.

The deadline for LLPs is April 1. Reports are considered delinquent June 1.

Secretary Evnen noted the convenience of filing online through the Secretary of State’s website https://sos.nebraska.gov/. A link to the annual and biennial report forms can be found on the front page of the website.

For those who wish, they can download the paperwork and either mail it in or come in person to the Secretary of State, Business Division located at 1201 N Street, Suite 120, downtown Lincoln.

“There are a variety of methods by which business entities can get their forms turned in. The important thing is to keep an eye on the applicable deadlines,” Evnen said.
