The Sidney City Council recently approved the third reading of an ordinance amending the speed limits throughout the city.
Areas undergoing change include Old Post Road to 45 mph, 50 mph on Illinois Street/U.S. Highway 30 from 1,200 feet east of Fifth Street to the junction with 17J, and residential streets moved from 20 mph to 25 mph.
“Really, its about making things consistent,” said Mayor Roger Galloway.
The new speed limits will be affective after the notice is published and new speed limit signs posted.
The council also approved a resolution authorizing year-end certification of the City Street Superintendent. The certification is a yearly process.
“We do it every year to send off to DOT (Department of Transportation),” said City Manager Ed Sadler.
Galloway said the requirement is required by the State because of the funding involved in major road projects.
Sadler also said Mercer, recently under contract to help the City hire its next city manager, has offered to work with the library board for recruiting a new library director. Library Director Andrew “Sherm” Sherman resigned in October.
Economic Development Director Melissa Norgard said she is working with the Department of Labor to assist with recent Cabela's layoffs.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 26.
