Celebrate Friends of the Library Week

The Friends of the Sidney Public Library will be spending the week of October 20-26, 2019, celebrating its Friends of the Library group as part of the 13th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week.

The Friends put on several community events to support the library and promote its resources. Events that the Friends support and put on are Library Lover’s month in February, Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Party in March, Summer Reading Program Kickoff at the start of summer, Kindergarten Reading program in September, and Pumpkin Decorating Contest in October.

The primary fundraiser for the Friends is a Jigsaw Puzzle Tournament held annually in October. The Friends are also supported by businesses and community members who become sponsors and contribute financially to the organization.

More than 25 local businesses and community members contribute annually to the Friends, with a team of seven contributors who actively volunteer their time to assist the group’s community events.

Celebration activities for the Friends of the Library week include the 4th Annual Jigsaw Puzzle Tournament and a Pumpkin Decorating Contest at the library held through Oct. 25.
