Cheyenne County Deputy Sheriff Receives Award

LINCOLN – Cheyenne County Deputy Sheriff Ron Kissler has received a Special Recognition Award from the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (NIRMA), the county's property, liability and workers' compensation coverage and risk management services provider.

Kissler was honored during an awards banquet held in conjunction with the annual membership conference the organization presented Oct. 3-4 in York for officials and employees in Nebraska counties and related public agencies that participate in the risk management and self-insurance program.

Kissler was chosen to receive the award because of the active role he takes in providing training to his fellow law enforcement officers and the employees of Cheyenne County and his regular use of NIRMA's loss prevention services to promote and ensure safety.

Each year NIRMA honors those members and individuals who demonstrate a commitment to reducing potential risks, liability exposures and claim costs.

Cheyenne County was one of 32 counties that joined together in 1988 to form NIRMA, Nebraska's first risk management and self-insurance program for county governments. Today, NIRMA serves 82 counties and 20 associated public entities.

Kissler said the award is also due to the dedication of county staff and the county commissioners.

"We need to especially recognize the enormous amount of work and dedication on these projects by Evie Flessner (Administrative assistant, Region 21 Emergency Management Agency) / Mindy Wiegand (Deputy Clerk of the District Court)  / Thomas Payne (Superintendent, Cheyenne County Building and Grounds). Again, none of this happens without the support of the County Commissioners, The Sheriff, and the heads of all the departments that either work with myself and the safety committee or have staff members involved," Kessler said Monday.
