In about a month, German heritage will be celebrated as the Sidney community will be ringing in Oktoberfest.
On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the Sidney City Council approved a request for the Oktoberfest Parade. The route will again be on Illinois Street/Highway 30. The closure would be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Twenty-third avenue to the intersection of Fort Sidney Road and Illinois Street. As part of the agreement, the City of Sidney will place barricades and detour signs, and have the signs removed after the parade is completed. Police officers will also be staffing intersections.
Once the parade has begun, anyone wishing to drive across Highway 30 will have to use one of the intersections manned by a police officer.
Also in the city council meeting, the council received the resignation letter of City Clerk/Treasurer Geri Anthony. Her resignation is effective Oct. 11. Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Cynthia Heilbrun will assume the duties of clerk and treasurer the same day as Anthony’s resignation.
At the presentation of her resignation letter, Mayor Roger Galloway commended her on her years of service to the community. Heilbrun said she has been with the City working with Anthony for several years.
“I’ve been here for 36 years,” Heilbrun said. “I’ve been deputy clerk with Geri for 29 years.”
The council also approved a resolution designating depositories for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. The City of Sidney has accounts in Platte Valley Bank of Sidney, Security First Bank, Points West Bank ad Sidney Federal Savings and Loan. The resolution is for Oct. 1, 2019 to Sept. 30, 2020
