Sidney Public Schools is one of five districts in Nebraska to receive 2019-2020 Perkins reVISION initial grants.
The grant is designed to assist local school districts in completing the reVISION Career Education strategic planning process, according to a press release from the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE).
The program promotes collaboration between school officials, regional workforce and economic development leaders, reVISION career educators, industry professionals and community leaders. Through the reVISION process, schools can analyze and transform their current Career and Technical Education (CTE) processes to improve their ability to produce an educated and qualified workforce that meets employers’ needs.
“We are looking forward to the reVISION process this school year,” Sidney High School Director of Student Programs Grades 9-12 and School Counselor Grade 12 Tess Plummer said. “Our overall goal is to enhance our current Career Pathways program so that we can provide opportunities to our students to become future-ready adults.”
The reVISION process will help ensure that high quality CTE programs are in place in all Nebraska schools, and that such programs are aligned with college and career readiness standards as well as the needs of employers, industry and labor, according to the NDE website.
“We look forward to strengthening our community partnerships and reviewing our current programs of study so that we are able to offer meaningful career readiness learning opportunities to our students,” Plummer said.
Once a school completes the initial reVISION process, the school is eligible for an Action Grant. The Perkins reVISION Action Grant provides the funds for school districts to implement the reVISION Action Plan. The Action Plan is developed in the reVISION process. Only activities that align with high-skill, high-wage and high-demand occupations are considered for funding, according to an NDE press release.
For the 2019-2020 school year, 17 school districts were awarded a total of $536,995.
