Joyce Elaine Jallen, age 86 of Sidney, NE passed away in Poplar Bluffs, MO, with her son by her side on Saturday, June 8, 2019.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 21, 2019, in the Christ Episcopal Church in
Sidney with Pastor Leon "Bud" Gillespie officiating and inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday to sign Joyce's register book and leave condolences for the family. Joyce was born on October 13, 1932, in Sidney, NE to John C. and Merle M. DeMers. She attended the Sunol School system in Sunol, NE and went to college in San Clemente, CA where she studied business, nursing and she received her LPN certificate. While in college, she met the love of her life, William S. "Bill" Jallen. They married on April 16, 1953, in San Clemente, CA. During their many years of marriage, they had five children: 2 wonderful sons, Raymond Lloyd and William Sanford "Little Bill" and 3 beautiful daughters, Sheila Marie, Iris Elaine, and Anne Louise.
Joyce was a very proud wife and mother. Her priority in life was to have a healthy family, a clean home, and being an extraordinary homemaker. While tending to the family, Joyce also held down different job positions over the years. She was a teacher's aide in the Sidney Public School system, worked at the Credit Bureau, and worked at the Doves Pantry. She loved playing the organ, the piano, and singing in the Choir at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. She also performed numerous jobs at the Christ Episcopal Church which included playing the piano, playing the organ, taking care of the flowers, and managing the candles. She thrived and supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren while they participated in school activities such as sports, music concerts, plays, and many more events. She was an active member of the Genealogy group, a lifetime member of the DAV, loved going to lunch with the ladies, and playing golf on Tuesday mornings.
Survivors include her son William S. and significant other, Vicki Bridges of Bloomfield, MO; daughter Iris E. and husband Steve Olofson of Ogallala, NE; daughter Anne L. and husband Dean Sterling of Sidney, NE; daughter-in-law, Margaret Jallen of Lodgepole, NE. Her grandchildren: Thomas Deal of Ogallala, NE; Shawn and wife Tiffany Jallen of Springfield, MO; Justin and wife Beth Jallen of Sidney, NE; John Olofson and significant other Ashley Pell of Arnold, NE; Jeremy Jallen and significant other, Selena Rivera of Mesa, AZ; Jayma and husband Shannon Smay of Omaha, NE; Chanel Sterling of North Platte, NE. Her great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Alex, heila, Daniel, Katarina, Kayden, Sawyer, and Brayden. Sisters-in-law: Evelyn DeMers of Sidney; Maxine DeMers of Sterling, CO; Numerous extended family members, friends and pets.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill"; Parents, John, and Merle DeMers; Brothers, John, Raymond, and Donald DeMers; Son, Raymond Lloyd; Daughter, Sheila Marie Deal; Parents-In-Law, Melvin and Beatrice Jallen; and Brother-In-Law, Conrad "CJ" Sund.
