16th Gold Rush Days a Success

Legion Park was busy with activity from staged gunfights to historical accounts of the region when gold was king and the west was wild.

Sidney's 16th Gold Rush Days was held at Legion Park Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 7-9 with displays, music, "cowboy coffee" kids events, displays, vendors at the Shelter House and talks and displays on the Lakota history.

"It went well," said Ken Geu, president of the Gold Rush Committee. "We had a good crowd."

Geu admitted the weather impacted the attendance Friday and Saturday evening. However, the Native American dancing was a big hit. He said an estimated 167 breakfasts were served Saturday morning, and more than 100 teepee models were built by children.

"Overall, it was a good event," Geu said.

He said the committee is always looking for volunteers to help in the event. A planning meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in the Virginia Smith Room of the library. To contact the Gold Rush Days committee, email [email protected].
