Wayne A. Buhrdorf - Obituary

Wayne Arthur Buhrdorf age 86, of Potter, NE was called to his Heavenly Home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney.

A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 1st in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church North of Potter with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-7:00 P.M. with family present from 5-7:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wayne's name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Potter Rescue Unit. Wayne Arthur Buhrdorf was born on October 15th, 1932, the son of Elmer Henry and Helen Sophia (Baack) Buhrdorf at the family farm northwest of Potter, NE. He was baptized on November 6, 1932, by Rev. G.H. Boehnke, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Potter. His baptismal sponsors were his uncles, Arthur Baack and Hugo Buhrdorf and his aunt, Hilda (Baack) Bredehoft. He confirmed his faith on May 20, 1945. Wayne was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Wayne attended grade school at Kimball County District #53, a one-room school house located 2 miles southwest of the family farm. After his 5th grade year, District #53 closed and he attended Potter Public Schools, graduating in 1949.

Wayne farmed with his father and worked winters at Sioux Army Depot northwest of Sidney. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953, assigned to boot camp at Fort Leonardwood, MO., and stationed at an Army Military Base in England for 18 months. Wayne was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in 1955. He returned home and farmed until his retirement in 1998.

Wayne enjoyed family gatherings and keeping in touch with family and friends. He always had a cup of coffee, roll or Pepsi for visitors.

Wayne is survived by his sister Darlene Benish and husband Don of Gering and Potter, NE, (2) sisters Norma Johnson of Sidney, Joan Worthman of Scottsbluff, (1) brothers Keith Buhrdorf and wife Sherry of Sun City, AZ, brother-in-law Herbert Meisner of Scottsbluff, sister-in-law Audrey Buhrdorf of Sidney and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Helen (Baack) Buhrdorf, grandparents, Ernest and Clara (Pflughaupt) Baack and Fredrick and Wilhelmine (Hering) Buhrdorf, sisters: Maxine Buhrdorf and Shirley Meisner, brothers: Robert and Dale Buhrdorf, brothers-in-law, Russell Worthman and Wendell Johnson.
