Lewis Leads Sidney At State

Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field team qualified numerous athletes through the District Championships on May 9, and a busload of Red Raiders made the trip to Omaha on Thursday afternoon. Friday morning the Raiders traveled over to Omaha Burke Stadium for the first day Preliminaries, where the athletes gave their all to qualify for the Finals in their events held on Saturday despite numerous rain delays pushing event starts well into the evening.

Rain threatened most of the day on Saturday, but the precipitation held out until the final event of the day, the 1600 Meter Relay. After a 62 minute delay, the races were able to be finished, and the competition ended. The Sidney boy's team tied for 16th place, while the girls squad, with far fewer competitors, placed 41st. Senior Cade Lewis led the medal tally with three, for his fifth place finish in the 200 Meters, his sixth place finish in the 100 Meters, and his seventh place finish as the anchor of the 4x400 Relay team.

Senior Collin Brauer had the highest finish of the day, fourth place, in the 3200 Meter run. For the girls, junior MJ Johnston was the lone medal winner with an eight place finish in the Pole Vault.
