A Sidney man was killed Monday in a traffic accident east of Cheyenne.
According to the Wyoming State Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at milepost 368 on Interstate 80 east of Cheyenne. Around 6:34 a.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area for a motor vehicle collision.
The Patrol reports a 2013 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 when the Freightliner drifted into the emergency lane. Two 2006 Freightliners had stopped in the emergency lane due to a mechanical issue on one of the commercial vehicles. The 2013 Freightliner collided with both of the 2006 Freightliners and then crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. A westbound driver of a 2012 Ford tried to take evasive actions to avoid the 2013 Freightliner by merging into the right lane. The Ford collided with a 2005 Kenworth, also headed westbound in the right lane before both vehicles hit the 2013 Freightliner.
The driver of the 2013 Freightliner has been identified as 36-year-old Kent, Washington resident Vadym Koshman. Koshman was wearing his seatbelt and transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver of the 2012 Ford was identified as 21-year-old Sidney resident Jasmine N. Herrera. Herrera was wearing her seatbelt and was transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash. The passenger in the Ford was 25-year-old Sidney resident Tyson A. Herrera. Tyson Herrera was wearing his seatbelt but succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
The driver and passengers of all other vehicles were not injured.
Driver inattention on the part of Koshman is being investigated as a contributing factor.
