Peetz’s Bulldog baseball team got its first win of the season, and its first tie, in a double header against the Weldon Valley Warriors in Weldona last Thursday. Senior lefty Xavier Runge was able to shut down the Warrior’s offense in the bottom of the first after the Bulldogs were unable to score in their half of the frame.
Both teams offenses broke through in the second inning with Peetz putting up five runs and the Warriors responding with three runs of their own. Peetz was able to continue the offensive production, plating eight more runs in the third inning, while Runge held Weldon Valley to just one run in response. The Bulldog’s unleashed a 13 run onslaught in the fourth inning to seal the victory 26-to-4. Junior Mike Turpin had three hits, five RBI’s, and three stolen bases, while Runge struck out six over three innings of work.
In the second half of the double header, Turpin took the mound after the Bulldog’s put up two runs in their half of the first inning, but surrendered three to the Warriors to go into the second inning down 3-to-2. But the Bulldogs bats broke out again in the top of the second, and Peetz scored five runs to re-take the lead, 7-to-3. Turpin was unable to shut down the Warrior’s offense, and Weldon Valley scored four in the bottom of the third to tie the game at seven. The game ended in a 7-to-7 tie due to time constraints. Junior Gus Cowan had a hit and scored two runs while Turpin struck out five in the tie.
Peetz next faces Prairie in New Raymer on April 19.
