Top Sidney Students Recognized by Board of Education

Sidney Public Schools' top students were recognized at the board of education meeting Monday.

The student recognitions were through the Sidney Middle/Senior High School Monthly Performance Award Program.

The Monthly Perfor-mance Award acknowledges other criteria as well as achievement. These criteria are:

- Superior academic performance, (or), dramatic improvement of classroom work, G.P.A. or attitude toward learning. Exceptional work effort toward a particular class project.

Outstanding Contri-bution to the class.

Leadership exhibited in the class/school.

Citizenship emphasized and modeled.

Service to school.

Recognized for the March Performance Awards, with nomination comments, were:

7th Grade

Sidney Allard

Sidney Allard is the seventh grade Student of the Month.  Sidney strives for excellence in every class at SMS. She displays a strong work ethic and diligence at school each day. In addition to being responsible and always turning work in on-time, Sidney strives to firmly understand new concepts.  She goes above and beyond in class to demonstrate her deep understanding. Sidney participates in extracurricular activities including basketball and quiz bowl, while maintaining her high grade point average. Way to go, Sidney! Sidney is the daughter of Kent and Becky Allard.

8th Grade

Gavin Allen

Gavin Allen has been chosen as Sidney Middle School's student of the month for April.  Gavin is an outstanding role model in the classroom for other students to follow. He always has a positive attitude and is always willing to help out.  Gavin shows a passion for learning and it shows in class when he participate in class discussions. All of these qualities make him an excellent choice for Student of the Month.  Gavin is the son of Travis Allen and Darla Allen.

9th Grade

McKenzie Andrew

McKenzie was nominated because of her academic performance, and classroom effort. She is an excellent student, very detailed in her work, and good with deadlines. She is a member of the Lady Raider volleyball team, and also enjoys running. She would like to attend a 4-year university after high school and study radiology. McKenzie is the daughter of Keith & Lori Andrew.

10th Grade

Peyton Lewis

Peyton was selected because of classroom effort, leadership, and academic performance. She is an excellent student that works hard, enjoys helping others, and leads by example. Peyton is a member of Science Club, Mock trial, Show choir, XC, Track, National Honor Society, S club, and Spanish Club. Outside of school she enjoys running and bee keeping. She plans to major in biology after high school graduation. Peyton is the daughter of Lance & Tanya Lewis.

11th Grade

Sophie Price

Sophie is an excellent student and is a natural leader. Some things she is a part of is Sidney Singers, NYC honor choir, musical, speech, one acts, mock trial, National Honor Society, student council, The Upper Room youth group, and Unified Raiders. She loves to sing, act, record music, take photos of people or places, and do volunteer work. Something she enjoys about school are the activities and opportunities that are available to her. Her future plans are to join the International Justice Mission team, which is targeted to stop major sex trafficking organizations, which is something she is very passionate about. If that falls through, her main goal in life is to have a career that is made to help people, like a lawyer, or a missionary, or on a disaster relief team. Sophie is the daughter of Jim & Kelly Price.

12th Grade

Brennan Andrew

Brennan was nominated because of his classroom effort, and leadership/citizenship. He is a hardworking, very reliable young man with a great attitude. He participates in the Sidney Police Department Explorer Program. He works at Walmart and enjoys hunting and outdoor activities as hobbies. Brennan enjoys a lot of his classes and how the teachers make sure every student succeeds! He plans to attend Chadron State College and major in Criminal Justice. After he graduates he plans to pursue a career in law enforcement. Brennan is the son of Keith & Lori Andrew.
