Who says learning can't be fun? Certainly not Rick Meyer, principal at Sidney's South Elementary.
Meyer delighted students and parents alike Friday when he opened the day in a fun and unusual way, wearing a dinosaur costume as he greeted his first and second graders as they came to school.
The activity was payoff for students' achievements this school year. Since the beginning of the year, students have worked hard to earn "Raider Badges" when they reach certain levels of performance. From reading assignments, to spelling, perfect attendance and being a good friend, students could earn badges individually in 30 areas.
But the deal was, when the school's students accumulated 2,000 Raider Badges, Meyer would don his T-Rex suit. Students reached the goal April 2, and three days later got to high-five their Dino-Principal in front of the school.
"It's about them having fun," Meyer said. "And it gave them something to look forward to, a challenge to do better."
