Raiders Compete in McCook Invitational

With weather wrecking havoc on the schedule early in this Track & Field season, the Red Raiders traveled out to the McCook Invitational on Monday, foregoing the previously scheduled Tri-State Invite at Creek Valley High School in Chappell.

The Sidney boy were stayed close but were unable to beat out McCook and Lexington squads in overall points, despite the expected strong performances from the distance runners and solid performances in the field events.

Senior Cade Lewis had the only individual win, taking first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.65. Senior Collin Brauer had a solid day, running first leg for the first place winning 4x 800 meter relay team and placing second in the 1600 meters. Senior Lane Hughes placed third in the Shot Put with a throw of 44-05.00 and senior Arik Doty placed third in the Discus with a distance of respectively 147-08.

The girls also came up short against Lexington and McCook, but also featured strong performances throughout the day. Senior Payton Jung was able to place second in the High Jump clearing 4-10, and freshman Lydia Peters placed second in the 3200 meters with a time of 13:52.45.

Junior MJ Johnstone was unable to top Holdrege's Samantha Schemper's 10-10.00 best in the Pole Vault, and settled for second placed by clearing 9-10.00.

Sidney is next scheduled to compete at the Mitchell Invite on Thursday starting at 11a.m.
