SRMC Appreciates Local Emergency Teams for Support

Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) shared its gratitude to the many individuals that helped during the recent blizzard experienced March 13 and 14. In a press release, hospital officials said that had the support of so many not been provided, the premature birth of a local resident may not have turned out so well.

According to the release, as the storm hit its momentum, a 29-week pregnant mother went into labor early. Unfortunately, as the family attempted to make it to town, they got stuck driving to the hospital and called 911 to get the car going and then were able to drive to the hospital. The Emergency Room Physician Assistant and Hospitalist on call with the help of numerous staff helped in the delivery.

Additional support was needed to manage the baby’s breathing until mother and baby could transfer to a NICU at the front range. In a combined effort the sheriff’s departments from Cheyenne County and Logan County and the Department of Roads for both states coordinated a transfer of much needed medication that would help stabilize the baby until the weather broke for safe transport.

Dr. Allard said, “We are so blessed for the efforts of some truly dedicated people during such a destructive weather event. They went way above going the extra mile. So thankful for the support of so many, everyone worked together so well.”

SRMC officials extended thanks to Sterling Regional Medcenter Emergency Department and Sedgwick County Health Center for the additional support, surrounding hospitals, Sidney Police Department, Cheyenne County, and Logan County Sheriff’s Departments, MARC, ERC, Department of Roads, Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center and the Sidney Regional Medical Center team.
