Red Raiders Get Fired Up for Spring

Sidney High School held a pep rally for the high school and middle school students on Tuesday afternoon as they enter the spring sports season. The Red Raider cheerleaders opened the festivities by firing up the students while accompanied by the Red Raider band.

The cheerleaders then briefly addressed the student body about their performance at the State Cheer Championships last month.

Next up, Lady Raider basketball coach Tyler Shaw addressed the crowd, thanking them for their support throughout the season that ended with a third straight State Tournament appearance.

Sidney wrestling coach Beau McConnell next addressed the crowd, and spoke of the success the wrestling program enjoyed over the season, and invited three senior wrestlers to speak of their experience and thank the crowd for their support.

The new head coach of the track and field team, Matt Mckay, briefly addressed the students about the upcoming track season, looking forward to continued success as Sidney has had one of the largest turnouts in recent memory, and looks to be loaded with talent in both the running events, and the field events.

Next, Sidney band and choir director David Mead spoke to students about the upcoming events for the band and choir groups, including the choir's trip to New York City at the end of April to perform at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre.

Sidney head golf coach Ryan Plummer then addressed the crowd about the upcoming season and all of the new faces joining the team, while the returning seniors commented on what to expect for the team in 2019.
