Cheyenne County Chooses Spellers for State

Twenty-nine spellers and nearly as many rounds were needed for Cheyenne County schools to decide the two best spellers Thursday.

West Elementary School again played host for the Cheyenne County Spelling Bee. Contestants represented Potter-Dix, Leyton, Sidney Middle School and West and North Elementary Schools. After 26 rounds of spelling, the top academic was decided.

Words varied from the simple to the abstract and complicated. Some of the words were complicated because the phonetics, the sound of the words, were misleading the spelling. For example, is the correct spelling con, conn, cahn or...
