The Peetz Bulldogs traveled to face a struggling Fleming Wildcats team on Thursday January 10, and the Bulldog's fast start left no question as to the final result of the contest.
After piling up a 25-to-10 lead with their fast break offense and height advantage, the Bulldogs continued through the second period relying on their defense while their offense cooled off. After the halftime break leading 36-to-18, the Bulldog shut down the Widcat's offense, only allowing 16 points in the second half while continuing to score to earn a 65-to-34 victory against Fleming.
On Tuesday the Bulldogs traveled to Julesberg to take on a strong Sedgwick County Cougars team, and found themselves in a battle from the opening jump.
The Cougars exploited the Peetz defense, scoring 19 points against 11 in the first quarter. Peetz battled back in the second quarter, holding off the Widcat's scoring, but were unable to make up much ground against the Sedgwick lead and went into the intermission down 32-to-25.
The Bulldogs could not get past the Wildcat's defensive alignment in the second half, and the Peetz high-scoring offense was only able to muster 10 points in the each of the final two periods, while the Wildcats put up 20 in the third and 12 in the fourth to win the contest by a comfortable 64-to-45 margin. The Bulldogs are next scheduled to face Weldon Valley at home on Saturday.
Peetz Girls Drop Two
Peetz's Lady Bulldogs are still searching for their first win as they dropped two games over the past week, to Fleming and Sedgwick County. On Thursday January 10, the girls traveled to Fleming to take on a very strong Lady Wildcats squad, and quickly fell behind against the Fleming offense, going into the half down 39-to-10.
The Lady Wildcats played their substitutes for the majority of the second half, but Peetz was only able to score nine points in the final 16 minutes, and lost the game by a final score of 50-to-19. Peetz sophomores LaKrisha Fehringer and Kayliegh Leek led the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs with six points each in the loss.
On Tuesday the Lady Bulldogs were on the road again, looking to get their first win against a struggling Sedgwick County Lady Cougars team.
The Lady Bulldogs could not contain the Lady Cougars offense in the first quarter, and were outscored 12-to-2 despite the sloppy play by the home team. Peetz was able to regroup in the second period, and became more aggressive on defense, shutting down the Sedgwick offense to close the gap at 16-to-10 at the half.
Peetz's good defensive performance was not matched by their offensive output, and they could not gain any ground against the Lady Cougars, only scoring 11 points in the half while allowing 22 for the home team, and lost the game with a final score 38-to-21. Peetz is next scheduled to take on Weldon Valley at home on Saturday.
