Potter-Dix Closes School Due to Illness

Potter-Dix schools ended the week with a closure due to illness spreading among students.

In a Facebook post, and also on the school’s Website, officials posted the message: “Potter-Dix Schools will be closed Thursday, January 17th and Friday, January 18th due to excessive illness. Please rest and get better!!”

In the remainder of Cheyenne County schools, Creek Valley and Sidney both reported that there are some illnesses, although not significantly higher than normal. Creek Valley officials say the school is continuing evaluative testing and classes are being held as usual.

At Leyton, Superintendent Chris Geary said the number of students out ill is higher than normal, “but not at a crisis point.”

Geary said recently students at that school were diagnosed with Influenza A.

Sidney School Superintendent Jay Ehler said Wednesday there were more students out than usual that day; 6 percent of the student enrollment compared to a typical 4 percent. He said there were 22 students home sick at Central Elementary, the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten school.
