The Cheyenne County School District No.1 (Sidney) met Monday night. Among the agenda, the board approved the resignations of Ann Elwell Darling and Ben Darling.
“I would like to say thank you for your support for our Art Program, and for allowing me to be part of Sidney Public Schools for the past 37 years,” Ann Darling said in her letter to the school board.
She said in her letter she plans to retire at the end of the school year in May.
“After my first day of kindergarten with Mrs. Lila Copley at Central Elementary, I was very surprised to find out that we were expected to return to school the next day. Now after 50 years of going to school here in Sidney, I hope I will find something new to accomplish,” she said.
She added that she will be able to enjoy August and September from a different point of view.
Ben Darling also said he plans to retire at the end of the school year.
“I would like to thank the students, staff, my colleagues, and the administration and school boards I’ve worked with during my ‘formal’ educational career,” Ben Darling said in his letter to the board.
He also thanked the board for its efforts on behalf of the students and the community.
In other business, the board also recognized Academic All-State award winners for fall activities. Sarah Wamsley and Kendra Nesbill were recognized for volleyball, Tiara Ginther and Amanda Beier were recognized for girls golf, Cade Lewis and Zach Petitt for football, Hannah Kennedy and Taighlor Arnett were recognized for girls cross country, Ben Bashtovol was recognized for boys cross country and Haley Williamson and Mason Nightingale were recognized for play production.
