Potter-Dix Stunned by Longhorns

The struggles continued for the Potter-Dix Coyotes basketball teams Tuesday night as they travelled to face the Kimball Longhorns, moving up to face Class C competition.

The Lady Coyotes started first, and found themselves overwhelmed on both sides of the ball, only scoring two points in the first quarter against the Lady Longhorns 22.

Kimball senior Lacey Klinkhammer and junior Carli Wurdeman controlled the inside while stopping the Lady Coyotes offensive so effectively, Potter-Dix went into the half down 38-to-4.

The second half offered no better result, as Kimball continued to shut down Potter-Dix while continuing to increase their lead.

The Lady Longhorns coasted to a 63-to-12 victory to keep the Potter-Dix squad winless on the season. The Potter-Dix boys were up next and immediately fell behind as the Longhorn’s defense smothered and forced the Coyote’s offense into too many turnovers and bad shots. Kimball put up 20 points in the first period, while the Coyotes were only able to mange six. The Kimball dominance continued, spreading the scoring throughout their lineup while opening a 44-to-8 lead at the half, effectively ending the contest.

The Coyotes could not get any offensive rhythm going, and were forced consistently into desperation shots. Potter-Dix junior Terell Gray battled hard under the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds, but only scored three points in the game on three successful free throws.

Seniors Izaak Glanz and Grant Hickman, two of the team’s scoring leaders, combined for less than 10 points on a night the Longhorn’s defense played its best.

The Coyotes again only scored eight points in the second half to fall in a final score of 69-to-16. The Coyotes travel to Dalton tonight to take on the rival Leyton Warriors.
