Lois J. Cook, age 90 of Sidney, NE passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 in Sidney.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 10th in the Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Corey Jenkins of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday to sign Lois' register book and drop off condolences for the family. Lois' casket will be closed. Memorial contributions may be made in Lois' name to the Sidney Salvation Army Thrift Store or to The King's Daughters, POB 823, Sidney, NE 69162.
Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Lois' care and funeral arrangements.
Lois Jane Cook, the daughter of Stephen Stanley Nicholls and Bexie Katherine (Young) Nicholls, was born on June 17, 1928 at Shelton, NE. Her family moved to a ranch north of Oshkosh when she was young. Lois attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Garden County High School in 1946. She was very active with her horses. Lois moved to Sidney in the late 1940s and worked at Laura's Floral Shop. On April 10, 1950, Lois was united in marriage to Simmons W. Cook Jr. in Sterling, CO. She then worked as the Colonel's Secretary in Personnel at the Sioux Army Depot from 1950 to 1956.
Lois enjoyed bowling, gardening and watching all sports.
Survivors include (2) son: Kim J. Cook and wife Peggy and Dr. Jeffrey A. Cook and wife Jennifer both of Sidney; granddaughter: Jordan Cook of Waco, TX; step-grandchildren: Melissa Gdowski and husband Mike of Hastings, NE, Meagan Peyton and husband Tanner of Bridgeport, NE and Mindy Butts and husband Mike of Sidney.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Bexie Nicholls, her husband Simmons in 2015 and siblings: Richard Samuel Nicholls and Helen (Nicholls) Potts and numerous extended family members.
