Creek Valley’s Lady Storm basketball team returned to action on Saturday as they hosted the Minatare Lady Indians for their first game of 2019.
The Lady Storm opened slowly, with both defenses thwarting any momentum the teams tried to build on offense, and the first quarter ended with the lady Storm trailing 7-to-2. Creek Valley picked up the pace while continuing to play tough defense and ended the half with an 11-to-10 lead.
Minatare was able to break through the Creek Valley defense in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Storm 14-to-9 and continued their momentum through the fourth quarter until the Lady Storm was forced to foul to catch up. The Lady Indians were effective at the free throw line, preventing the Lady Storm from closing the deficit and ending the game with a 40-to-30 loss for the home team.
Creek Valley head coach Missy Koenen was disappointed in the final result, but saw the positives in the game, saying, “The Lady Storm fought hard tonight and played with all their heart and left everything out on the court. We as team have to figure out how to play all four quarters and when we do that we will be unstoppable. The girls continue to improve every game which is great to see as a coach.”
Senior Haylee Sitzman led the Lady Storm with 12 points while senior Chloe Mitlehner had nine points, six rebounds, and a steal in the loss.
