Potter Girls Improve, but Fall Short

Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyote basketball team continued to struggle to earn their first win, dropping two more games over the weekend.

On Friday, the Lady Coyotes traveled to Iliff, Colo., to face the Caliche Lady Buffaloes, and started the game strong, matching the home team score for score, ending the first quarter tied at eight. In the second quarter, the Lady Buffs were able to build a slight lead going into halftime, 21-to-16.

In the second half, the Lady Buff’s defense was able to contain Potter-Dix more effectively, and put up 25 points in the half versus 11 for the Lady Coyotes, resulting in a 46-to-27 final score and Potter-Dix loss.

Potter-Dix head coach Jeff Einspahr commented on the girls’ performance, saying, “We played a really good first half and were only down by five going into the break. We just couldn’t contain their offense in the second half.”

The Lady Coyotes were led by Reagan Williams with 12 points in the loss.

On Saturday, Potter-Dix traveled to Arthur to take on the Arthur County Lady Wolves, and had trouble getting their offense ignited against the home team. The Lady Wolves were more consistent in their scoring, and although Potter-Dix’s offense was more effective in the second half, Arthur County was able to pull away from the Lady Coyotes, and settled in for a comfortable 57-to-25 victory.

Brooke Moench and Makayla Williamson led the scoring for the Lady coyotes with eight points each in the defeat.

Einspahr was undeterred by the losses.

“All the girls are playing hard and getting better with each game,” he said.

Potter-Dix next faces Bayard when they return from the holiday break.
