Leyton High School

Leyton’s Warrior boy’s basketball team opened their season with tournament play in Bridgeport, and split their games to start their season at 1-and-1. Leyton’s first game on Friday night was against a powerful Bridgeport team, and the Warriors fell into a big hole quickly, being outscored 25-to-7 in the first period. Leyton was unable to recover, only managing 5 points for the rest of the game, with no points being scored the fourth quarter to fall 64-to-12 to start the tournament.

The Warriors were able to rebound on Saturday, taking on the Crawford Rams and after a slow start, Leyton was able to pull away on the strength of dominant second and third quarters. A low scoring fourth quarter sewed up the game for Leyton, winning the game by a final score of 34-to-24 to earn their first victory of the season. Sophomore Zach Henke had 10 points in the win to lead the Warriors scoring.

Leyton’s Lady Warriors also traveled to the Bridgeport tournament, but did not fare as well as the boys, dropping both of their games. They first played Bridgeport on Friday, and were unable to overcome a slow first half performance that saw them down at halftime 29-to-13.

The Lady Warriors were able to find more success offensively in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the Lady Bulldog’s lead, and fell by a final score of 56-to-33. Leyton’s nest game on Saturday against Crawford was more competitive, with a tight first half that saw the Lady Rams leading only by two points at the half, 19-to-17. The teams battled to a tie in the third quarter with both squads posting nine points, but the Lady Warriors were unable to break through in the fourth quarter, and lost by a final score of 36-to-31 to start their season with an 0-and-2 record. Junior Madelyn Watchorn led the scoring for Leyton with 16 points in the loss.

Potter-Dix

The Potter-Dix Coyotes basketball team had a rough start to their season, traveling to Kimball for tournament play. Their first game was Friday night against Dundy County-Stratton, and the Coyotes fell behind quickly and never recovered in a lopsided 93-to-12 loss. The Coyotes tried again for their first win of the season on Saturday against Kimball, but the Longhorns also proved to be too much for the Coyotes, opening up a 36-to-9 lead at halftime on their way to a 60-to-16 final score, which moved Potter-Dix’s record to 0-and-2. Junior Terell Gray led the scoring for the Coyotes with four points in the loss.

Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyotes also opened their season at the Kimball tournament with the boys, and had similar results. In their first contest on Friday, the Lady Coyotes quickly fell behind and never threatened in a 62-to-8 loss against Dundy County-Stratton. The girls tried to regroup for Saturday’s game, but Morrill also proved to be too tough, opening a 40-to-10 halftime lead against the Lady Coyotes en route to a 59-to-15 victory.

Peetz High School

The Peetz Bulldogs boys basketball team opened at the Carlile Classic, and posted two impressive wins to start their season. Peetz first faced Caliche on Friday, and had a strong opening quarter against the Buffaloes and continued the momentum to open a 36-to-21 lead at the half. A 32 point offensive explosion in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Bulldogs with a final score of 83-to-50.

On Saturday Peetz matched up against Otis, and outscored their rivals in every quarter of the game for a comfortable 64-to-40 victory to start the season with a 2-and-0 record.
