Raiders Split Hall of Fame Games

Sidney's boys and girls basketball teams are heading into their seasons, and hosted the Hall of Fame Basketball Game against the visiting Hershey Panthers.

The teams were able to get quality opponents to face while taking a good look at their squads as they prepare for the 2018-2019 campaigns.

The girls started off play, and settled into a groove after a slow start by both teams.

The girls were able to come out on top at the end of the game, 47-to-36, and were able to see how their offenses and defense sets worked with a mix of new and returning players replacing varsity squad graduates.

The boys then faced off against the visiting Panthers, and despite some good play and solid shooting fell short in the end, 60-to-55. The boys also had the opportunity to see how their revamped squad operated in preparation for the upcoming season.

Both Sidney teams start the season on Thursday in the first round of the Western Conference Tournament. The Sidney girls open at 4 p.m. against Gering in the Scottsbluff High School gym, while boys start against Alliance at Scottsbluff at 7 p.m. Play continues on Friday and Saturday at Scottsbluff High School and Western Nebraska Community College for the teams that advance.
