What is the office you are running for? I am Melody “Mel” Keller, seeking the office of Cheyenne County Assessor
Why did you choose to run for office? My choice to run for this office is twofold. First, I felt a change was needed in how the patrons of the Assessor’s Office and the people of Cheyenne County are treated when showing concerns or having questions about their valuations. Secondly, I feel that my professionalism, dedication, attention to detail and work ethics are needed to better serve Cheyenne County, my home.
What skills do you have that you will bring to the office? I have worked in the Assessor’s Office for almost seven years now. I have a combined total of more than twenty years of management experience and with that comes numerous hours of management training, a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on math, and I am very customer service orientated.
What do you hope to accomplish if elected? I hope to help people feel more comfortable asking questions of the Assessor’s Office. I also hope to increase the awareness of what the Assessor’s Office does and the services we provide. I will continue my training in the assessment and state regulations areas to further serve Cheyenne County accordingly. I will instill in my staff that we work for the people of Cheyenne County and to be approachable and courteous when helping patrons.
What are some challenges you hope to overcome? Overcoming the changing times of Cheyenne County and assessing accordingly is first and foremost. I know I have a daunting task ahead of me but I am up for the challenge.
What are the most important issues to be addressed by your office? Public awareness of what the Assessor’s Office does while making fair, educated assessments is my top priority.
