Brad Sherman - City Council

Series: Local Candidates | Story 7

Why did you choose to run for office?

I want to do whatever I can to help Sidney continue to grow into the future. I feel we have a lot to offer new families as well as the families that continue to make Sidney their home. I want to work within the community to get the message out that Sidney is a great place to live and raise a family or even bring a business.

What skills do you have that you will bring to the office?

I have worked for UPS for 28 years and had the opportunity to Manage the centers in Alliance, Scottsbluff and Sidney for the last 11. I enjoy working with people to solve problems. I like to involve as much experience and knowledge as I can into creating a solution. I believe there is nothing more powerful that a group of people with the same goals working together to get it done. I have been active in the TeamMates Program for 7 years . I served on the Board for 4 years and the last 2 as Board President. I served for 9 years on the United Way of Western Nebraska. I really enjoy seeing people succeed.

What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

My number one goal would be for Sidney to grow in population and also grow in the number of businesses and employment opportunities. I feel like we have a lot the right things and people in place that are working toward continuing to grow Sidney. As we continue to grow we need to make sure we are using our money as efficiently as possible.

What are some challenges you hope to overcome?

The biggest Challenges will be attracting businesses and the people needed to work in them as we continue to grow. We have had several new businesses start up already or express interest in Sidney so it won’t be impossible. We just need to be flexible and willing to facilitate this process.

What are the most important issues to be addressed by your office?

The growth of Sidney. Bringing in new businesses to create opportunities to attract people to Sidney. Helping the businesses we currently have be successful and reach more customers. Maintaining a beautiful city for all of us to enjoy.
