Dinner and Comedy Supports 'Shop With a Cop'

In nearly every community, there are families who struggle to keep up. Frequently, there is too much month at the end of a paycheck. The tight paydays can lead to little or no Christmas gifts. Unfortunately, police often meet some of these families at the family's worst times.

The Sidney Police Department is part of a program build relationships between the department and the community, and help people in need.

Saturday night, a fund-raiser dinner theater was held at the Elks Club in Support of "Shop With a Cop." Dairy Queen supported the effort Tuesday, donating a percent of their evening proceeds to the program. A night of Tomfoolery offered a night of stage comedy in addition to a pulled pork or chicken dinner at a donation cost. In addition, there was a silent auction with donated goods and services. All proceeds went to the Shop With A Cop program. The entertainment was provided by "Way Out West."

The "Shop with a Cop" program is designed to bridge the gap between the Sidney community and the police department.

Living paycheck to paycheck, sometimes stretching that last dollar to its breaking point, is seldom fun, and even stressing when it occurs in the holiday season. There are families in Sidney and communities like it that likely are quietly wishing for a way to offer their son or daughter some type of Christmas gift.

Shop with a Cop is designed to build a relationship between the community and the police department, and to help make a family's holiday a little brighter.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 43, along with the Sidney Police Department, welcomes the opportunity to work with families in our community, especially those with underprivileged children who may not have the same opportunities as others their age, according to the program application. The Sidney Police Department is in its second year hosting a local version of the program.

Applications to participate in the program are available at local businesses and at the police department.
