Sidney's Lady Raider volleyball team traveled to Sterling, Colo. on Saturday for tournament action and won all three of their matches, then traveled to Kimball on Tuesday and defeated the Lady Longhorns in straight sets to close their regular season with a strong showing.
On Saturday, Sidney first faced the Sterling Lady Tigers, and got off to a fast start by taking the first set 25-to-9. The Sterling squad fought back in the second set, but Sidney was able to hold off a late challenge and took the second set 25-to-22 for the match victory. Senior Payton Jung had sevenkills, four service aces, six digs, and 12 service receptions in the win.
Sidney next faced the DSST: Byers team out of Denver, and made quick work of the Lady Falcons in straight sets, 25-to-10 and 25-to-8 to secure their second match victory of the tournament. Junior Mattie Johnson had 5 kills, four service aces, and eight digs in the win.
Sidney's final match on Saturday pitted the Lady Raiders against Frontier Academy out of Greeley Colo., and Sidney again faced no trouble in a straight set win. The Lady Wolverines were unable to overcome the powerful Sidney squad, losing the first set 25-to-12 and the second 25-to-15. Sophomore Karly Sylvester was the match standout with 5 kills and a block in the win.
On Tuesday the Lady Raiders traveled to Kimball to finish their regular season schedule, defeating the Lady Longhorns in straight sets for the second time this season. Sidney quickly took control over the match, winning the first set 25-to-16 then besting that score with a 25-to-12 second set. Kimball fought back in the third set, but fell short to the Lady Raiders 25-to-21 to give Sidney the three-set win and finish their regular season with a 25-and-7 record.
The Lady Raiders travel to Alliance on Tuesday Oct. 30 for the B-8 Subdistrict Tournament and are scheduled to face Gering in their first match.
