Sidney's Red Raider cross country team traveled on Friday to Gering to compete at the Western Conference Meet at 5 Rocks Amphitheater, and both the boy's and girl's squads took top honors at the end of the day, both edging out second place Gering.
On a challenging course made tougher due to wet conditions, the boy's squad placed six runners in the top 15, with senior captain Collin Brauer leading the way with a third place finish at 17:22. The girls placed four runners in the top 15, with freshman standout Lydia Peters leading the way with a time of 21:11.59 earning her fifth place overall.
Sidney head coach Donna Wiedeburg was thrilled with the results, saying, "It was an uncomfortable day, with our feet getting soaked from the wet grass within minutes of being on the course. Kids were falling during the race due to the conditions, but despite that our team had seven personal records and two season records set. We have no quit in this team, proved by Lani Kuhns finishing over half her race despite having one of her shoes fall off early in the race. These kids are amazing!"
