Peetz hosted the Briggsdale Falcons on Homecoming weekend, and won a football game that will be talked about for a long tim to come.
The Bulldogs prevailed over the Falcons in the highest-scoring high school football game in Colorado history by a final score of 101-to-85 on a hot day in Peetz.
Briggsdale received the ball first, and quickly started the scoring explosion on a short touchdown pass by junior Tyler Blickem to senior Ethan Malovich for a 6-to-0 lead. Peetz wasted no time responding with senior sensation Bryson Long running 47 yard to paydirt on the Bulldog's first play from scrimmage.
After a successful point after kick, the Bulldogs took an 8-to-6 lead which quickly disappeared as Blickem threw a long touchdown pass to senior Vincent Bauer, and after a successful point after attempt, the Falcons were back in the lead 13-to-8.
Peetz struck right back, with junior Cooper White catching a short pass then outrunning the Falcon's defense for another quick score, and after a successful point after attempt, Peetz was back in the lead 16-to-13. But Briggsdale responded, with a long touchdown run by junior Kaleb Brown, putting the Falcons back up 19-to-16. This score and response pattern was finally broken by the Bulldogs midway through the second quarter, when Briggsdale seemingly scored again to knot the game at 32, but the Falcon's long touchdown run by senior Cole Stolarczyk was called back due to an illegal formation penalty, and Briggsdale's drive stalled with a turnover on downs.
Peetz immediately capitalized, and on the second play of their drive the Bulldog's Bryson Long rumbled for a 32 yard touchdown run, breaking tackles all the way to the endzone, increasing the home team's lead to 38-to-22. Again the Briggsdale squad struck back, this time with a long pass to Vincent Bauer for a touchdown, and again the play was called back with a Falcon's penalty, resulting in the first punt of the game by the Falcons.
Peetz seemed to be in control of the game at that point, again cashing in for a touchdown to increase their lead to 46-to-25, and then stopping the Falcons on their next possession with another turnover on downs. Peetz then had their tough break, as Bryson Long rolled out to pass, then pulled the ball down and ran for a touchdown, only to have the score erased by a penalty for an illegal block. The back and forth continued until the end of the second quarter, when a Peetz last second field goal attempt missed, ending the half with a score of 54-to-31 for the Bulldogs.
After Peetz finished the halftime homecoming ceremonies, they received the ball to start the second half and drove down the field, and scored again on a Bryson Long reception for a touchdown, bring the score to 60-to-31, and finally the Peetz faithful were able to relax and anticipate the victory. By the middle of the fourth quarter, anticipation turned to anxiety as the Falcons simply would not quit and kept matching the Bulldog's score for score in the fourth quarter, giving it their all against the Peetz team, but ultimately falling short in the contest, losing the game 101-to-85 in the highest scoring football game in Colorado High School history with a combined total of 186 points for the two teams.
Peetz senior Bryson Long scored seven touchdowns for 42 total points while junior Cooper White scored 4 touchdowns for 24 total points in the victory. Peetz next faces Flagler/High Plains on Friday at Peetz.
