Potter-Dix Volleyball Places Second in Tournament

Potter-Dix’s Lady Coyote volleyball team had a series of matches over the last week, culminating with a five team tournament at Potter on Saturday where the Lady Coyotes placed second overall, edged out in a tie-breaker by the first place Crawford Lady Rams.

The Lady Coyotes first traveled to Paxton last Tuesday, and lost their first match to Wauneta-Palisades in straight sets, 22-to-25 and 8-to-25. The Lady Coyotes rebounded and defeated Wallace in straight sets 25-to-14 and 25-to-23. On Friday, Potter-Dix traveled to face a tough Hyannis team, falling in three sets 19-to-25, 14-to-25, and 19-to-25.

The Lady Coyotes then hosted the Potter-Dix Invite on Saturday, facing four other teams from around the region. Potter-Dix started the day against Sedgwick County Colo., and lost 2 sets to 1, taking the first set 25-to-23, the dropping the next two by scores of 25-to-15 and 25-to-18. The Lady Coyotes refocused and came out strong against the Crawford Lady Rams, winning the match 2 sets to 1 and establishing momentum as they next swept the Morrill Lady Lions in straight sets 25-to-15 and 25-to-20. The Lady Coyotes final match of the day pitted them against the Peetz Lady Bulldogs, with the Potter-Dix squad coming out on top with a 2 sets to 1 victory. The overall tournament victory was earned by the Crawford Lady Rams, who took the victory based off of total points due to the identical 3-and-1 records of the Lady Rams and Lady Coyotes.

Potter-Dix head coach Cory Michelman was pleased with his team’s performance over the week, saying “The girls continue to improve on a daily basis and are starting to get in a groove now that our schedule is in full swing. The entire team continues to improve their play, led by senior captains Brooke Moench and CC George who have both stepped up their leadership and are guiding the team on the floor.”
